Vodafone New Zealand has launched VDSL home broadband services, to compete with a similar offering from incumbent Telecom NZ.
The new broadband service offers download speeds ranging from 15Mbps to 70Mbps, the company announced.
Telecom NZ is charging a NZ$10 ($8.23) premium for VDSL services compared to ADSL plans. Vodafone plans a similar premium, but will delay introducing the surcharge for the first 12 months.
Plans with a home phone line will be offered starting at NZ$85 per month for an 80GB allocation, or NZ$75 per month for Vodafone NZ mobile customers. Naked DSL plans are available for NZ$85 or NZ$65 for Vodafone mobile customers.
Telecom NZ debuted VDSL services in July last year, launching with a NZ$95 entry level plan with 80GB of data.
The company is marketing VDSL services as a stopgap measure for customers wanting higher broadband speeds and still waiting for the nationwide UFB fiber network rollout to reach them.
In neighboring Australia, Vodafone has appointed a new CEO to replace the outgoing Bill Morrow, who recently took a job as CEO of state-owned NBN Co.
Inaki Berroeta, currently chief of Vodafone Romania, will take over from Morrow as head of Vodafone Australia from March 1.
Vodafone Australia is in the middle of a turnaround phase as it seeks to reverse years of mobile subscriber losses and repair its image with Australian consumers. The company recently predicted it expects to return to subscriber growth in the first half of 2014.
