Vodafone India's long-serving CEO Martin Pieters has revealed plans to step down at the beginning of April.
Pieters, who has been CEO at the company since February 2009, will be replaced by COO Sunil Sood.
"Marten has been a fantastic leader in India and a wise and trusted contributor across the Group as a whole. I look forward to working with Sunil to build on the successes of a business widely admired in India and internationally," Vodafone Group CEO Vittorio Colao said in a statement.
He said under Pieters' leadership, Vodafone India has doubled its revenues and added more than 100 million customers. Pieters was appointed chairman of industry group the Cellular Operators Association of India last year.
Pieters plans to remain on the Vodafone India board in a non-executive capacity following the transition.
Sood has been working at Vodafone India and its predecessor Hutchison Essar since 2000, holding various management roles. Vodafone India has not yet appointed a successor to the post of COO.
