Vietnam's VinaPhone has entered a strategic partnership with Vodafone aimed at bolstering the positions of both companies in the market.

The operators have agreed to “promote international business cooperation” and take advantage of each others' market and technology expertise, VinaPhone said in a statement.

Aspects of the collaboration will include agreements on international roaming, VAS and enterprise services.

The partnership is also a component of the strategic alliance between Vodafone and the Conexus Mobile Alliance, of which VinaPhone is a member. Vodafone and Conexus, an Asian operator group, entered a wide-ranging partnership in 2011.

Vodafone CEO Vittorio Colao commented that the deal will allow the operator to “bring international products and services to Vietnam as well as unique services [to suit] the demands of each market.”

VinaPhone spokesperson Doan Xuan Hop added that the cooperation will help the VinaPhone brand name become more well-known in international markets.

VinaPhone, a state-owned operator, announced at the end of July that it was testing DC-HSPA technology, with the aim of upgrading all its 13,000 3G base stations to the standard by early 2015.
