The Vietnamese government aims to allow operators to start launching LTE networks at the end of the year or early into the next.

The country is planning to conduct a 4G auction of 2.3-GHz and 2.6-GHz spectrum to facilitate the rollouts, Thanh Nien Newsreported.

Vietnam's department of radio frequencies will also promote the use of the 900-MHz band for 4G as well as 3G.

The nation's operators have shown a preference for the use of low-frequency spectrum to allow them to provide services in rural as well as urban areas.

Operators have shown a preference to refarm low-band 2G spectrum for 3G services, and demonstrated a reluctance to invest in to invest in high frequencies.

Experts have recommended that Vietnam should not be in a rush to transition to 4G, as this will require significant investments in infrastructure and the nation's 3G market is still at a high-growth stage. Vietnam was late to enter the 3G era, with the services first introduced in 2009.
