Videocon Telecom, the telecom arm of the Videcon Group, plans to participate in a spectrum auction in India in January 2014.

The company is planning to bid for the 900-MHz license in Delhi in the auction and has already appointed corporate finance firm Deloitte to formulate its business plan and rollout strategy, the Business Standardreports.

Videocon Telecom chief, Arvin Bali, cited Indian regulator TRAI’s recent decision to cut spectrum auction prices by 60% for the company’s decision to buy more licenses. He told the newspaper the Delhi circle and 900-MHz spectrum are strong strategic fits for the firm.

Bali said 900-MHz is more efficient spectrum and that a liberalized license regime allows the company to offer next generation data service.

Videcon Telecom won 21 licenses in 2008, but lost 20 of them after India cancelled 2G licenses in 2012. It bought five licenses back in the Northern belt in November last year.
