Nepal's Vianet has revealed plans to deploy a nationwide ultra-high-speed FTTH network capable of connecting 200,000 users by 2019.

The ISP said it has contracted Nokia to deploy a network capable of delivering speeds of up to 2.5Gbps per subscriber.

To support its rollout targets, Vianet opened a new branch in the Pokhara area last month, and plans to expand to four more districts by the next year.

Vianet also recently secured a contract to build an FTTH network in Sudurpashchim Pradesh on behalf of the Nepal Telecommunications Authority. The company aims to provide internet and IPTV services to all urban and semi-urban areas in the country.

Vianet launched Nepal's first FTTH service in 2011. In 2016, the company partnered with NET TV to provide IPTV services with more than 190 channels to customers. The operator is providing on year's free NET TV service to customers as part of their yearly subscription to internet plans.
