Verizon is beefing up its global IP network by pushing 100 gigabit Ethernet (GE) technology to routers at the edge of the system.

The US telco is upgrading domestic and European 100G routes to cater for growing demand for cloud and data center connectivity on its Private IP network, a network-based virtual private network that is available in 170 markets globally.

Rich Montgomery, Verizon group vice president for Europe, the Middle East and Asia, says the upgrade will help customers “turn their big data into information that offers real business advantages.”

Another move the telco pledges will benefit businesses is standardizing its 1GE and 10GE services, which it claims will cut bandwidth ordering and delivery times.
