(Associated Press via NewsEdge) The US and Japan signed an agreement meant to help make it easier for American telecommunications and radio equipment makers to sell their products in Japan.

The agreement requires Japan to accept US product testing and certification results that show US equipment meets Japan's technical requirements.

US trade officials said the agreement will lower costs for US businesses and speed up their products' marketing in Japan.

US-Japan trade in telecommunications equipment totaled about $2.6 billion in 2005.
