China Unicom Shanghai, Huawei and Shanghai Shendi – an agent of Disney China – have signed a collaboration agreement to deploy 4.5G networks at the Shanghai Disney Resort.

The cooperation agreement covers network deployment as well as the introduction of new services based on 4.5G, the companies announced.

Cellular IoT services expected to be deployed under the collaboration include smart parking, smart people flow management and smart bands. Over the next three years, the companies also plan to introduce applications including 2K/4K video services, virtual reality and LTE-Vehicle.

According to the partners, the main objectives of the agreement include promoting smart applications, building Shanghai as a smart city and transforming information services.

Huawei has meanwhile signed yet another 5G research collaboration agreement, this time with South Korea's LG U+.

The agreement involves developing network equipment for 5G as well as joint laboratory and field testing, the Korea Herald reported. The companies also plan to jointly contribute towards the 5G standardization efforts.

LG U+ and Huawei had already agreed last year to develop a mobile innovation center in Seoul dedicated to research into LTE-A and 5G. South Korea is taking a leading role in developing the 5G standard, with the government committing to invest $1.5 billion towards the development of the technology.
