Connected TVs today are still a relatively niche product, in spite of price cuts and major marketing pushes from manufacturers. Today, the most widely installed connected TV device in the home is the games console.
But this will not be the case for long. In 2013, by which time connectivity will have become a standard feature in new TVs, Informa predicts that there will be 100m more connected TVs installed in homes globally than there are games consoles.
Game over in the connected home? Not quite. More games console users connect their devices than connected TV owners, meaning that, in terms of those that actually connect their device and use online services, games consoles will still have the edge.
