A 3G pilot trial has been introduced in Malaysia by Time dotCom, a provider of mobile, fixed, Internet and payphone services.
Time dotCom said the main purpose of the trial is to test the performance of the next-generation 3G technology HSDPA.
The trial will assess how an HSDPA network reacts to varying patterns of demand, with results providing input for Time dotCom's planning process.
Time dotCom will be assisted by vendors Huawei and Alcatel to ensure the trial is conducted effectively and appropriately and meets objectives, and will also work with other vendors during the process.
The trial is due to run for at least three months, over Kuala Lumpur's Golden Triangle area, and meets a commitment made by Time dotCom to telecoms regulator MCMC as part of a successful bid submission.
Time dotCom plans to issue a full proposal request to vendors upon completion of the trial.
