(Thai Press Reports via NewsEdge) Thailand's northern region police is now using a new satellite tracking system for police cars to help them pursue criminals.

GPS has been introduced to police at four main stations in Chiang Mai as a pilot project to help law enforcement officers arrest criminals. According to Pol. Col. Chamnarn Ruadrae, deputy Chiang Mai provincial police commissioner, GPS receivers and wireless cameras have been installed in police cars and motorcycles to help officers in the main control room to locate them and to alert the nearest police officers to a crime scene.

The colonel said more than 10 security cameras had been installed along several routes in the city to transmit images of runaway criminals to control room officers. These would help them give police cars the right directions during pursuit.
