Telstra says it has successfully demonstrated LTE technology in the 1800MHz band with Chinese vendor Huawei.
Telstra said it is trialing LTE at 1800MHz with Huawei as part of the evolution of its Next G network which operates at 800MHz.
The Australian carrier says it expects LTE at 1800MHz to complement LTE services at 700MHz and 2600MHz – the two bands the Australian government will auction for 4G.
The 1800MHz LTE trial is evaluating “throughput using MIMO antenna configurations as well as… inter cell interference coordination to reduce radio network interference and improve throughput and self-organizing networks,” Telstra said.
The telco named Huawei alongside existing vendor Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks to work on LTE trials from May.
Huawei isproviding an “entire end-to-end LTE/SAE solution” for the trial.
Telstra’s Hong Kong subsidiary CSL is running LTE trials with the other Chinese vendor, ZTE.
Meanwhile, Chunghwa Telecom and incumbent vendor Ericsson rolled out Taiwan’s first LTE field trial on July 1.
The trial was conducted at 700MHz, but Taiwan’s regulator says it won’t be able to allocate FDD spectrum at 700MHz for LTE until 2017.
Chunghua and Ericsson also agreed to set up a LTE interoperating testing center for Taiwanese device manufacturers.
