Telstra's LTE network supports 3.2 million 4G devices, two years after launch, the Australian operator has revealed.

The company has since June this year been activating an average of 25,000 4G devices per week, Telstra announced.

Since the 4G network launched in 2011, the company has expanded its coverage to 2,500 base stations, and is currently building the network at the rate of 100 new sites per week.

By Christmas this year, Telstra aims to switch on another 1,000 4G base stations, expanding coverage to 85% of the population.

Telstra recently launched new shared mobile data packages aimed at customers which use multiple mobile broadband enabled devices. The operator has revealed plans to start rolling out LTE-Advanced this year.
