Telstra Global has secured a license to operate telecom services for Taiwanese multinational corporations and carrier customers.

The international division of Australia's Telstra now has a type II telecom business operating license, allowing it to provide network services in Taiwan.

It will also allow Telstra Global to offer in-country billing for Taiwanese customers, and to buy local loops directly from operators for its hosting and virtualization offerings.

The company revealed it will now expand its PoPs in the market. Telstra Global had already been providing network services to a number of multinationals connecting into Taiwan.

Setting up directly in Taiwan will mean Telstra Global has operations across 12 APAC countries. These include its controlling stake in mobile operator CSL Limited in nearby Hong Kong.

Telstra Global head of Asia-Pacific Andrew Wildblood said the application was modelled on the company's past experience in the region.

“We have previously completed successful applications for operational licences in both Japan and Korea, and were keen to ensure the level of support and product offerings were available for our customers in Taiwan,” he said.
