Telstra has unveiled plans to axe 330 senior and middle managers in a move that will save the telco millions of dollars.

Officially, the job cuts are part of CEO David Thodey’s grand plan to cut red tape, simplify decision-making processes at the labored telco and ultimately improve customer service, said theAustralian.

But the job cull will also save Telstra millions of dollars in costs as it faces the prospect of declining sales.

Under the plan, about 30 senior executives – reportedly all on high six-figure salaries – will be sacked in the coming weeks.

Following this, around 300 middle management positions will also be chopped.

The job losses are in addition to around 900 frontline positions that are due to be cut over the next 11 months.
