Bangladesh's Teletalk has awarded Nokia a €30 million ($32.06 million) contract to expand and modernize the operator's mobile networks.

Under the agreement, Nokia will help the operator improve coverage in rural areas not covered by 2G or 3G, while enhancing the quality of experience in urban areas.

The project involves the deployment of Nokia's Single RAN platform, extending Teletalk's service offerings in parts of capital city Dhaka, as well as five divisions covering 70% of the nation.

Nokia will also help Teletalk modernize its core and optical network and provide professional services for the deployment – including network planning and implementation - over the next two years.

“With this initiative we are confident that we will raise the bar for superior and consistent quality of service for our subscribers,” Teletalk managing director Gias Uddin Ahmed said.
“We are happy to further extend our excellent collaboration with Nokia towards building a state-of-the-art network and bringing a quality network to our customers."

Nokia head of South Asia Nicolas Bouverot added that the network expansion and modernization initiative will help Teletalk attract new subscribers in rural areas and reduce churn in urban areas.
