Telenor Pakistan has announced the successful deployment of Nokia's 5G-ready AirScale cloud RAN solution as part of its network transformation project.
The deployment, which Nokia said was the first cloud-based base station controller deployment in the MEA region, is aimed at facilitating the operator's digital transformation.
Telenor Pakistan is conducting a network modernization project with the goal of optimizing the end customer experience, improving total cost of ownership and allowing the operator to quickly respond to emerging opportunities.
In December, the operator also launched Pakistan's first 4.5G network by deploying carrier aggregation technology in four major cities.
"Telenor Pakistan has always been a frontrunner in the growth of technology and innovation... Together with Nokia's cloud solutions, we are well on our way to accelerating digital transformation,” the operator's CTO Khurrum Ashfaque said.
“We will have added flexibility to scale the radio network resources based on demand as well as greater agility, which is critical as a significant percentage of our subscribers continue to use 2G and 3G services. With this deployment, we will be able to introduce new services and solutions faster, and quickly take advantage of emerging business opportunities."
