Telekom Malaysia's third quarter net profit fell 11.7% year-on-year to 166.8 million ringgit ($39.4 million), due in part to exchange rate losses and higher tax charges.
Revenue grew 10.9% over the same period to 2.92 billion ringgit, on the back of both voice and data revenue growth.
Voice revenue was up 10.2% year-on-year to 895 million ringgit due to growth in bilateral international and wholesale revenue.
Internet revenue meanwhile swelled by 18.4% year-on-year and 1.6% quarter-on-quarter to 845 million ringgit, mainly due to increased upselling and IPTV revenue contributions.
The company's total broadband customer base meanwhile increased by 3.7% year-on-year to 2.3 million. Fixed line customers declined 1.1% to 4.2 million over the same period.
“The third quarter was a mixed one for us. We closed the quarter with some improvements in our performance despite an overall challenging environment,” Telekom Malaysia CEO Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mod Isa commented.
