Telefonica is gunning for control of cloud computing in Latin America with a new hosting service for large companies and public agencies.
The Spanish incumbent has teamed with Cisco and virtual computing firm VCE to launch Virtual Hosting 2.0 in its current Latin American markets, claiming the service is the first tailored cloud product for VCE’s Vblock platform in the region. The telco also states the service offers the highest levels of integrated virtualization, server, storage, networking and security.
Daniel Jiménez, director of Telefonica Latin America’s corporate division, says the service strengthens the telco’s global presence as well as its regional abilities. The hosting service offers the ability to offer big corporations and government offices “full and hybrid solutions with the highest levels of security,” and provide “an end-to-end service unique in the market,” he states.
Data centers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru have been interconnected to offer the hosting service, which Telefonica states offers an easy transition to cloud computing. Services available initially include infrastructure as a service (IaaS), virtual data centers, private cloud services and disaster continuity.
