Thaicom promotes Paiboon Panuwattanawong as CEO

Thaicom has appointed Paiboon Panuwattanawong as its new chief executive officer and the authorized director of the company.

Panuwattanawong, who is currently chief technology officer at Thaicom, will assume his new role on October 1. He has been working for Thaicom for 23 years, with the last six in the role of CTO.

Panuwattanawong succeeds Suphajee Suthumpun, who is leaving the Thai satellite operator after working for the company for four years.

Suthumpun will assume the role of advisor to the CEO during the leadership transition period from October 1 to December 31.

Commenting Suthumpun’s departure, Thaicom said: “During her four years at Thaicom, Suphajee dedicated herself to creating sustainable growth and success for Thaicom and the INTOUCH Group. Her efforts and accomplishments have been widely recognized and honored by many reputable customers and Thai and international institutions alike.”

Ciena names CTO for EMEA

Ciena has promoted Joe Marsella to the role of chief technology officer for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) to drive the company’s expansion in the region.

In this role, Marsella will also provide strategic counsel to Ciena customers and partners to help them transform their networks through key technologies such as software defined networking (SDN) and network functions virtualization (NFV).

Prior to this new role, Marsella served in several positions within Ciena. Most recently he was senior director of product line management, responsible for the software strategy of Ciena’s Agility software portfolio, now part of Ciena Blue Planet.

Marsella has over 20 years of experience in the software and telecommunications industry as well as expertise in both packet and optical networking, including SDN, NFV, photonics, dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), optical transport networks (OTN), Carrier Ethernet and control planes.

He is based at Ciena’s EMEA headquarters in London, reporting to Benoit de la Tour, VP and general manager EMEA.

Infinera appoints Nick Walden to lead sales operations in EMEA

Infinera has appointed Nick Walden as senior vice president of sales for Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).

Walden brings to the table with 20 years of industry insight and experience gained through a range of leadership positions.

Prior to joining Infinera – which announced in April to buy Transmode for $350 million, Walden is most recently served as vice president and managing director for Ciena’s regional carrier business in EMEA.

Before that, Walden served in numerous capacities at Ciena for 14 years including his role as the regional managing director leading the Northern Europe business across service provider, partner and enterprise markets.
