Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has appointed Dato’ Sri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly as its new managing director / group chief executive officer, with effect from May 1.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Malaysian incumbent said the appointment followed the retirement of Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa as group CEO with effect from April 30.
Shazalli is currently the regional CEO for Axiata Group’s Southeast Asia operations, after being promoted from his previous position as the CEO of Celcom Axiata.
TM also announced that its group chief financial officer (GCFO) Datuk Bazlan Osman will take over as deputy group CEO effective April 1 in addition to his current role as executive director.

Nor Fadhilah Mohd Ali, current financial controller, is appointed to cover the duties of the GCFO with effect from April 1 until the nomination and appointment of a new GCFO.

Commenting on the retiring Zamzamzairani, TM chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob said Zamzamzairani is “a true TM career man and a transformative leader and his passion for TM inspires a sense of belonging and purpose amongst Warga TM – we attribute this as instrumental in driving the company’s exemplary success.”

Zamzamzairani has more than 30 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, starting at TM where he served for 13 years before assuming key positions in several multinationals.

In 2005, he returned to TM as senior vice president (group strategy and technology) and was promoted to CEO (Malaysia business) before being appointed to his current office.

“Tan Sri Zam is a consummate TM leader who will be remembered by everyone across the TM group as a leader of great integrity, passion, charisma and intellect,” Sulaiman said.

On the appointments of Ramly and Osman Sulaiman said: “We are indeed excited with these appointments as it marks new era of leadership for TM as Malaysia’s convergence champion. Dato’ Sri Shazalli brings with him the energy, drive and industry know-how to build on the strong foundation established by Tan Sri Zam. Together with Datuk Bazlan as his deputy; this dynamic duo makes for a formidable team.”
