Telecom Career: StarHub names Terry Clontz as chair

StarHub names new chairman

StarHub has appointed ex-CEO Terry Clontz as its new chairman from July 15. He has taken over the reins from Tan Guong Ching, who is retiring at 68.

Tan was first appointed to the board on August 8, 1998 and became the company's non-executive chairman from Apr 1, 2001. He oversaw the successful leadership successions at the StarHub CEO level from Clontz to Neil Montefiore, and eventually to current StarHub CEO Tan Tong Hai.

Clontz is currently the senior executive vice president of North America and Europe Operations at Singapore Technologies Telemedia Pte Ltd. He is also a senior corporate advisor to the Temasek Holdings International group.

He joined StarHub in 1999 as its first president and CEO until his retirement in January 2010.

During his tenure, Clontz had merged StarHub with Singapore Cable Vision in 2002. He also led StarHub's public listing on the Singapore Exchange in 2004.

Qualcomm appoints Sunil Lalvani Indian chief

Qualcomm has appointed former BlackBerry executive Sunil Lalvani as vice president and president of Qualcomm India.

He replaces Avneesh Agrawal, who left Qualcomm this month after working for the company for 21 years. Agrawal was most recently senior vice president and president of Qualcomm India and South Asia.

Lalvani, who assumed his new role on July 27, reports directly to Qualcomm executive vice president and co-president Cristiano Amon.

Lalvani has more than 20 years of experience in sales, business development, strategic planning and business operations across the IT and telecom sectors.

He joins Qualcomm from BlackBerry, where he served most recently as managing director of India and SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation).

Before that, Lalvani also has worked at EMC, Nokia, Cisco Systems and SITA Equant Network (now Orange Business Services).

Reliance Communications appoints Braham Singh as SVP of global product management

Indian telco Reliance Communications has appointed Braham Singh as senior vice president to manage the operator's global product portfolio across its Indian enterprise unit and submarine cable business arm Global Cloud Xchange.

Singh will also manage the company’s national long distance (NLD) and data center businesses, RCOM said in a statement released on Friday.

With over 30 years of telecoms experience, Singh comes to RCOM from Hutchison Global Communications (HGC), where he most recently served as vice president and senior advisor for international business as well as head of the company’s OTT services.

Prior to HGC, Singh was CEO at the Red Snapper, a Malaysian government funded initiative to promote wireless broadband in the country. He has also worked at various senior position with PCCW Global (formerly BtN Access), Hutchison AT&T, Sprint International, Global One and Teleglobe International.

Juniper Networks hires Nvidia’s Bob Worrallhas as CIO

Juniper Networks has appointed Bob Worrallhas as senior vice president and chief information officer.

Worrall joins Juniper Networks with more than 25 years of business and IT leadership experience, most recently at Nvidia Corporation, where he served as SVP and CIO.

In his new role, Worrall will be responsible for protecting all of Juniper Networks’ critical information, intellectual property and physical resources as well as ensuring all IT systems are aligned to support the company’s people and growth agenda.

He reports to chief financial and operations officer Robyn Denholm, the company said in a statement.

In addition, the company has also appointed Susan Lovegren as SVP of human resources, reporting to chief executive officer Rami Rahim.

Lovegren has over 25 years of leadership experience, including seven years at Juniper Networks where she served as a corporate vice president leading the company's global business-aligned human resources team.

Lovegren rejoins Juniper Networks from Plantronics, where she most recently served as SVP of human resources.
