Qualcomm appoints Cristiano Amon president of QCT
Qualcomm has promoted Cristiano Amon to executive vice president and president of co-president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT), effective immediately.
Meanwhile QCT co-president Murthy Renduchintala has left Qualcomm after serving the company for the past three years.
Amon joined Qualcomm in 1995 as an engineer and has subsequently held numerous business and technical leadership roles.
For the past three years, Amon has been responsible for Qualcomm’s semiconductor business as co-president of QCT and a member of Qualcomm’s executive committee.
Qualcomm said Amon has provided exceptional leadership in expanding QCT’s product roadmap, successfully building the chipset strategy and business in China and developing deep and strategic customer relationships critical to the company’s long-term success.
“Cristiano has been managing QCT’s product roadmap since 2008 - a period of unprecedented growth and innovation for Qualcomm and the industry. He is the right person to lead QCT for a new era of expansion in our semiconductor business,” Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkop commented.
Juniper Networks names Kevin Walker security CTO
Kevin Walker has joined Juniper Networks as security chief technology officer. In his new role, Walker will serve on the senior leadership team and report directly to executive vice president and general manager of Juniper Development and Innovation (JDI), Jonathan Davidson.
In his role, Walker will guide Juniper Development and Innovation in accelerating the company’s security product roadmap, while helping to further drive and lead the security strategy both internally within Juniper and externally with investors, partners, influencers and customers.
Walker joins Juniper Networks with more than 25 years of experience in information security and technology, most recently serving as vice president and assistant chief information security officer at Walmart.com. He has also served in a variety of roles, including chief information security officer, chief security strategist and director of information security across technology, networking and security companies such as Intuit, Cisco Systems, Symantec Corporation and Veritas Software.
Nicholas Yang to head HK’s newly launched innovation and technology bureau
The Hong Kong SAR Government has appointed Nicholas Yang as Secretary of Innovation and Technology to head the city’s newly created Innovation and Technology Bureau (ITB).
Yang previously served as advisor to the Chief Executive CY Leung on innovation and technology. With the establishment of the ITB, Yang has relinquished the post but will continue to chair the advisory committee on innovation and technology.
Yang worked as a senior design engineer for Intel in 1978 and subsequently as a strategic management consultant for Bain & Company, before returning to Hong Kong in 1983.
After returning Yang took up several roles including deputy group managing director of Shell Electric Mfg, senior consultant and director of several venture capital and private equity investment firms in 2002.
He was named CEO of Cyberport in 2003, and executive vice president of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 2010 to February 2015, before being appointed as non-official member of the Executive Council and advisor to the Chief Executive on innovation and technology in March.
