Nokia COO Monika Maurer quits, replaced by Joerg Erlemeier

Nokia said its chief operating officer Monika Maurer will leave the company after just eight months in the job.

Maurer, who was promoted to group COO in April, will be replaced by Joerg Erlemeier (pictured), currently a senior vice president for Nokia Transformation, with immediate effect, the company said in a statement. Erlemeier, who has been working with Nokia for over 20 years in various leadership positions, has also been appointed to the Nokia’s Group Leadership Team (GLT).

Nokia said Maurer will support Erlemeier during a transition period and then leave Nokia to pursue new opportunities outside the company.

"I want to thank Monika for her contributions to Nokia, and Alcatel-Lucent before that,” said Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri. “I warmly welcome Joerg to the GLT, and look forward to working together to further strengthen our disciplined operating model."

Erlemeier has over 20 years of experience in various leadership positions in Nokia, including heading the Middle East and Africa region; leading Services in Asia-Pacific and Japan and North America; and serving as COO of the Mobile Networks business group.

Intelsat names Samer Halawi chief commercial officer

Intelsat has appointed satellite industry veteran Samer Halawi to the newly created position of chief commercial officer (CCO). Halawi, formerly CCO of LEO start-up OneWeb, will assume his new role at Intelsat on January 9.

Intelsat said Halawi’s appointment comes as the company aims to accelerate the commercialization of its EpicNG satellite fleet and the launch of new managed service offerings.

In his new role, Halawi will oversee Intelsat’s global commercial operations that include government, broadband, mobility and media businesses, as well as the sales and marketing departments. He will also lead Intelsat’s coordination with key business partners, such as OneWeb and Kymeta, as well leading distributors and value-added resellers in different sectors.
