Singapore’s NetLink Trust names Tong Yew Heng CEO

Tong Yew Heng has joined NetLink Trust, the Singaporean fiber network operator, as its new chief executive officer.

Tong, who officially assumed his new role on January 4, replaces Ng Yong Hwee, who stepped down to pursue other interests.

NetLink Trust chairman Yap Chee Keong said the company welcomes Tong, who is no stranger to NetLink Trust, having previously been a member of its board of directors.

“He brings with him more than 20 years of experience in senior management positions in various industries. We would also like to thank Yong Hwee for his contributions and wish him all the best in his future endeavors,” said Yap in a statement.

Prior to joining NetLink Trust, Tong was executive vice president of corporate and market development at ST Electronics. Before that, he was the Group CEO of CitySpring Infrastructure Trust with overall responsibility for the performance of the portfolio of gas, water, electricity and telecom businesses within the CitySpring Group.

Tong also served as a director on the board of various companies within the CitySpring Group, including: City Gas, SingSpring, Basslink and Basslink Telecoms.

VimpelCom appoints Jon Eddy as head of emerging markets

VimpelCom has appointed Jon Eddy as head of emerging markets to lead the global telecoms service provider’s businesses in Algeria, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.

He will report to chief executive officer, Jean-Yves Charlier.

“As we transform VimpelCom into a digital and customer-centric leader, Jon will play a pivotal role in driving the transformation and growth of our businesses in Algeria, Pakistan, and Bangladesh,” said Jean-Yves Charlier.

“Jon has a deep knowledge of emerging markets and will build on his experience in growing telecommunications businesses, especially in new strategic segments such as data and financial services.”

Eddy joins VimpelCom from dtac, Thailand’s second largest mobile operator, where he was CEO. Before that Eddy has been CEO of Telenor Pakistan, COO at Maxis Mobile in Malaysia, and CTO at Digi Telecom in Malaysia.

Jon’s appointment follows the recent appointments of Erik Aas as the new CEO of Bangladesh and Alexandr Komarov as the new CEO of Kazakhstan and represents another milestone in the strengthening of VimpelCom’s senior leadership team.

Scott Jackson to lead Infinera subsea business group

Infinera it has appointed Scott Jackson as vice president for its subsea business group.

In this role, Jackson will focus on enabling subsea network operators to maximize capacity and reach on their subsea cables, reduce operational expense, and to deploy services faster than competing systems.

Jackson is an accomplished leader in the submarine systems business, and has more than 31 years of experience directing teams from concept to delivery over a broad range of technology areas.

He was involved in undersea fiber systems from their genesis, including the first transoceanic optical cable, TAT-8, connecting North America and Europe. In fact, he spoke the first words carried on fiber between continents.

Jackson’s experience includes 18 years at Bell Labs Submarine Systems, later Tyco Undersea Systems.

Most recently, Jackson was CTO of 4D Security Solutions. Before that he had held senior executive roles in companies such as Finisar NJ Transmission Technology Center, Kodeos Communications and Defense Photonics Group.
