Toh Chai Keong joins IDA as assistant chief executive
Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has appointed Toh Chai Keong to the newly created role of assistant chief executive for engineering and technology, effective on Sep 8.
The appointment will strengthen IDA’s engineering and technical capabilities for the Smart Nation Platform (SNP), Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) and many other new initiatives.
Toh and other members of the IDA team will design, build and implement HetNet in partnership with research institutes such as I2R, institutes of higher learning (IHLs) and many industry partners. He will also lead the newly formed Engineering and Tech Group (ETG) of which the current IDA technology group will be a part.
As a globally experienced technologist, Toh will also provide a tech advisory role to Singapore’s fast evolving start-up eco-system. He will report to Steve Leonard, the executive deputy chairman of IDA.
A Singaporean with more than two decades of senior leadership and technology experience, Toh joins IDA from Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) where he was a professor and program director (Telematics).
Before that, Toh has served in roles including managing key DARPA defence research projects at major US companies such as ALICO Systems and TRW Systems. He has also led technology roadmaps, product development and R&D patents on mobile networking technology.
