Anil Bhasin to lead Cisco India & SAARC services business

Cisco has appointed Anil Bhasin to lead its services division in India and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region.

Bhasin replaces Srivalsan Ponnachath, who led Cisco Services in India. Based in Mumbai, Bhasin will report to Glen Cox, VP of Cisco Services, Asia Pacific, Japan and China.

Bhasin will be responsible for driving smart services adoption and helping customers and partners plan, build, and manage Cisco technologies and solutions. He joined Cisco in 2001 as the head of banking and finance and commercial business for the Western region.

Prior to joining Cisco, Bhasin worked at Getronics (formerly known as Wang Global) as national sales manager, Dubai and M/s Computer World in Bahrain.

Small Cell Forum names Softbank’s Shimazaki vice chair for Asia

The Small Cell Forum has named Yoshihito Shimazaki vice-chair for Asia and Dr Alan Law vice-chair for Europe. Andy Germano will move from his current role as vice-chair to the new position of VP Americas.

Shimazaki is currently deputy division director for mobile solutions at Japanese mobile carrier Softbank. Law is now serving at Vodafone Group as new technology manager.

The appointments came weeks after the industry organization tapped AT&T’s Gordon Mansfield as its chairman, as the forum shifted its focus to the demands of operators.

Microsoft Hong Kong taps new GM

Microsoft has appointed Horace Chow as GM for its Hong Kong subsidiary, replacing Peter Yeung, who will retire in November.

An expert on data management, business intelligence and enterprise mobility, Chow most recently served as VP and GM of database and technology for SAP China.

He will officially join Microsoft Hong Kong as soon as he completes transition work on his current assignment.

Subex appoints MD and CEO

Banglore-based BSS vendor Subex has appointed Surjeet Singh as MD and CEO.

Singh has over two decades of multi-industry global experience in the finance, corporate development, business planning and global operation functions.

Prior to joining Subex, he worked as president international business with Glodyne DecisionOne. Before that, he has held top executive positions at IT and BSS vendors such as Patni Computer Systems Ltd and Cymbal Corporation.

CSR CTO joins Bluetooth SIG board

CSR CTO Dr. Steven D. Gray has been appointed to the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) board of directors.

Gray will serve a two-year appointment starting December, joining current board members from Intel, Motorola, Lenovo, Nokia, Microsoft, Ericsson AB, Toshiba, Apple and Nordic Semiconductor.

Gray started his career in wireless technology at Nokia where, along with Antti Lappeteläinen and Mauri Honkanen, he invented the first iteration of Bluetooth low energy technology, code named Wibree.

Former Samsung strategist joins Infonetics

Infonetics Research has appointed mobile device expert Julien Blin as directing analyst for consumer electronics and mobile broadband.

Prior to joining Infonetics, Blin was a strategy manager at Samsung, advising the CEO of Samsung Telecommunication America on the company's Galaxy Tab tablet, Galaxy Smartphone, Smart TV, set-top box, and content, services, and retail strategy.

Before that he headed the consulting firm JBB Research, where he advised startups, carriers, and vendors in North America, Europe, and emerging markets. He is also a former Wedbush Morgan equity research associate; IDC, Ovum, Maravedis, and Northern Sky Research market analyst, and freelance tech journalist and editor.
