Recognizing Asia's top vendors

(Hong Kong – Dec. 2) Huawei Technologies and Cisco Systems were the big winners in this year's Telecom Asia Readers’ Choice Awards -- both taking home three trophies each.

Huawei was named the Best Telecom Vendor of the Year (the best-of-the-best award), Wireless Network Vendor of the Year and Broadband Network Vendor of the Year. Cisco was recognized as the Core Network Vendor of the Year, Metro Network Vendor of the Year and Carrier Ethernet Vendor of the Year.

Alcatel-Lucent, Amdocs, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks each won two awards. Amdocs was voted the OSS Vendor of the Year for the first time and was named BSS Vendor of the Year for the third consecutive year. Alcatel-Lucent won the LTE Innovation of the Year award for its lightRadio product line and was also named FTTx Vendor of the Year.

Ericsson took the Wireless Broadband Network Vendor of the Year and Best Infrastructure Management Vendor awards. Nokia Siemens Networks was selected as the Most Innovative Vendor of the Year for its Liquid Net wireless solution and Green Vendor of the Year.

Thirteen equipment and software suppliers received 21 awards, which were presented yesterday at a ceremony in Singapore by representatives from nine service providers and Analysys Mason partner Amrish Kacker, who gave the opening presentation. Executives from AT&T, BT Global Services, Level 3 Communications, NTT Communications, Orange Business Services, StarHub, Tata Communications, Telstra International and Verizon Business were on hand to celebrate with the winners.

CSG International's Content Marketplace was recognized as the BSS Innovation of the Year for its easy-to-use service that gives operators the tools to compete head-to-head with the OTT players and the app stores while HP won the Cloud Innovation of the Year for its CloudSystem, which one of the nominating analysts said "gives telcos a simple and agile path to serve the lucrative SMB market".

The other winners were Ciena (Optical Network Vendor of the Year), Juniper Networks (Mobile Security Vendor of the Year), Microsoft (Video Platform Vendor of the Year), SAP (BI Vendor of the Year) and ZTE (Broadband Innovation of the Year).

Telecom Asia organizes the awards each year to recognize the technology innovations and accomplishments of the top telecom vendors operating in Asia Pacific. Nominations were open to analysts, consultants and telco executives in September. More than 60 telecom insiders submitted some 520 nominations. Telecom Asia’s editorial team narrowed down the list of nominations in each of the categories after consulting with a team of analysts. A total of 45 companies were nominated in 21 categories. In addition to 15 Readers’ Choice Awards, six Special Editor Recognition Awards were presented.
