Most Innovative Approach to Analytics SK Telecom: end-to-end customer call records

Park Jong-Kwan, senior vice president and head of ICT R&D Center of SK Telecom, believes in the power of analytics. It is also reason for their two awards: Best Asian Telecom Carrier and Most Innovative Approach to Analytics.

Analytics helped SK Telecom to know their customers well and shape their experience.

“In order to provide quality service, we offer various use cases for network quality optimization, customer experience management, and operation efficiency based on big data analysis accumulated through OSS and BSS,” Park said.

TANGO, the company’s new next-generation OSS, uses analytics-based machine learning and automation to detect abnormalities in service, avoid cell congestion, filter alarms, correlate different data, and optimize inter-frequency load balancing.

Park sees data analytics playing a bigger role with 5G, especially in network planning, engineering, establishment, and operations.

SK Telecom sees AI, IoT and advanced security as part of its future. Its voice-activated ‘NUGU’ already connects its more than 3 million customers with devices, driving up revenues. It is also investing in IoT and borderless connectivity to support smart homes and cars.

Meanwhile, its Quantum Technology Lab is pioneering quantum cryptography to enable security “in the 5G era of hyper-connectivity,” said Park.
