Hong Kong, January 13, 2011 – Telecom Asia is calling for nominations for its annual awards, the region’s longest-running and most prestigious telecom industry awards, now in their 14th year. Top performing Asia service providers and industry executives will be selected in ten different categories.

This year’s awards have been expanded to cover best community telecom project and most innovative telecom project.

Readers are invited to nominate candidates in the following categories:

  • Best Asian Telecom Carrier
  • Telecom CEO of the Year
  • Best Community Telecom Project
  • Most Innovative Telecom Project

Online nominations are open now and will close February 7.

Winners in the 10 categories will be chosen from more than 100 fixed, mobile and convergence telecom operators from around the region, Telecom Asia Group Editor Joseph Waring announced today.

The awards are chosen from a shortlist of candidates nominated by Telecom Asia readers, judges and editors. Final selection is made by an independent panel of industry experts, who will cast votes on the basis of innovation, financial performance, technology, market leadership and corporate governance.

Axiata topped last year’s winners’ list after being voted the Best Asian Telecom Carrier and Best Regional Group while CEO Jamaludin Ibrahim won the Telecom CEO of the Year category. Other winners included Softbank for Best Asian Telecom Carrier, Tata DoCoMo for Best Emerging Markets Carrier and Apple for most disruptive technology (iPhone).

This year’s judging team will be supported by a broad range of analysts and industry consultants from across the industry and the region.
