Tata DoCoMo, India’s fastest-growing cellco, has once again stirred up the market with aggressive price plans.
Tata Teleservices’ GSM arm has unveiled new packages that allow enterprise customers to carry over unused free talk time and free texts for up to three consecutive months.
Tata Teleservices managing director Anil Sardana said the rollover plans were “yet another industry first” for the industry.
There are four monthly rollover plans available -- RO500 (priced at $11 per month), RO799, RO1,000 and RO1,099. The RO1,099 plan includes 150,000 seconds of free local calls and 72,000 seconds of free STD calls per month.
Tata DoCoMo burst onto the Indian scene in June offering per-second GSM billing plans, now offered by all major operators.
Tata Teleservices, which also runs a CDMA business, led India’s net adds race for the sixth consecutive month in January, adding almost 3 million CDMA and GSM net adds for the month.
The operators’ subscriber base has surpassed 60 million users, with Tata Teleservices emerging as the fifth-largest mobile operator in the country.
For its part, Tata DoCoMo continues to put the heat on its competitors, unveiling a new BuddyNet promotion last month for prepaid customers, which allows users to make local intra-circle calls to other BuddyNet customers for just 0.01 rupee for 6 seconds.
Last week, India’s No. 2 cellco Reliance Communications launched a new promotion, offering unlimited free local calls between its CDMA and GSM subscribers over a weekend.
