Tata DoCoMo is set to kick off 3G competition in India, announcing a launch on November 5.
The company plans to start 3G services by Diwali, the religious festival that this year falls on November 5.
State-owned operators BSNL and MTNL have already been selling 3G for services, but with limited rollouts and only a few hundred thousand subscribers each.
DoCoMo told TelecomAsiawill offer service in each of its nine circles – Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (West), Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Tata DoCoMo is a joint venture between the Tata group and Japan's NTT DoCoMo. It is Tata's service provider on the GSM platform.
The Tata group has contracted Huawei to implement 3G services in five circles, and NSN for the remaining four.
Rivals Bharti Airtel, Reliance and Vodafone Essar are all also expected to launch 3G services by the end of the year, but have yet to announce dates.
