Regional bigwigs Tata Communications and PCCW Global have signed a deal to interconnect their respective IP exchanges.

The IPX peering agreement will support IP communications services including HD voice and HD video delivered across the Tata Comm and PCCW networks.

The collaboration is particularly aimed at supporting MNOs in emerging markets looking to expand their IPX reach.

Interconnection is provided through Tata Comm's IPX+ connectivity platform, which uses its global MPLS network, supported by its round-the-world fiber network ring.

Tata Comm has a reach spanning 74 IPX PoPs in 40 countries, while PCCW Global provides IPX and VoIPX to around 130 countries.

“As we see more mobile operators introducing next generation IP-based communication services, global IP interconnectivity between networks is vital to delivering the highest quality end-to-end service experience,” Tata Comm SVP of product and business strategy Christian Michaud said.

He cited the example of a recent GSA report showing that 83 mobile networks have now deployed HD voice in 61 countries.

Tata Communications is part of India's Tata Group of telecom companies. PCCW Global is the international operating division of Hong Kong's HKT.
