Tata Comm has expanded its presence in Russia, setting up a local PoP in Moscow.

The operator which owns an extensive sub-sea cable network, said it was already delivering services to over 100 service providers in Russia and the CIS.

But Tata Comm has set its sights on the region, where demand for telecom services is growing strongly.

“Our expansion into Russia highlights our commitment to extend our global footprint into the emerging markets,” Tata Comm managing director Claude Sassoulas said.

“We can now offer our global managed network services to companies that are looking to expand into Russia in a much more cost-effective manner.”

As part of its expansion plans, Tata has signed a partnership agreement with Kazakh Telecom to allow it to connect the cities of Moscow, Astana and Almaty to its telepresence public room network. Tata said it expects this network to cover 35 cities worldwide by the end of 2010.
