Taiwan Mobile and US-based note-taking application developer Evernote have formed an alliance to enable the Taiwan mobile carrier to provide personal cloud service to its subscribers.

Under the partnership Taiwan Mobile will offer its mobile subscribers one year of free access to the note-taking service provider’s premium service. The offer is available from August 30 until September 30, Taiwan Mobile said in a statement.

Non-subscribers interested in Evernote services may also have free access to the software for one full year if they switch to Taiwan Mobile’s network from October 1, as long they use the company's mobile internet service with a minimum monthly fee of NT$250 ($8.40), the company added.

Taiwan Mobile president Cliff Lai expects that two million of the operator’s seven million mobile internet subscribers will sign up for the Evernote service.

The partnership is Taiwan Mobile’s latest personal cloud service offering.

Taiwan Mobile said it has since 2010 started offering cloud-enhanced personal data bank integration services, including the myMusic online music platform, myBook online bookstore and myPhoto online photo album, which are now being used by over one million users.

As part of the cellco’s continuous push in cloud computing, the company has earlier announced plans to invest NT$5 billion ($170 million) to build a green-energy cloud data center in Neihu district, a suburban area of Taipei.

Taiwan Mobile is the third operator partner for Evernote. The notetaking developer has similar agreements with NTT DoCoMo in Japan and Orange in France.
