Operators and the National Communications Commission (NCC) see that the target will be difficult to attain, the report said.
James Jeng, chairman of MSO kbro, was quoted as saying thatthe promotion of cable TV digitization needs supporting measures of which the most important is the availability of high-definition content.
Although existing analog content can be converted into digital content during a transition period, the long-term solution is to spend money and time to create digital content, Jeng said.
The company kbro has digitized 13% of its subscribers, while fellow operators Taiwan Broadband Communications and TFN Media have done 9% and 8% respectively, with an average digitization penetration rate of about 9% for all MSOs, the report further said.
Taiwan has adjusted the 2015 target proportion of all cable TV subscribers for digitized cable TV users from 50% originally to 75%, according to a report.
