In a concerted effort to improve disaster-recovery efforts, the global satellite communications industry, in coordination with the international emergency management sector, is holding a disaster recovery satellite summit titled "Satellite-based Disaster Recovery: Redefining the Critical Mission."
The summit, to be held on Nov. 28, will tackle the deployment of fixed and mobile communications to address natural and man-made disasters.
The GVF-hosted summit will serve as a follow-up to the 2005 GVF Summit, where government officials, executives of humanitarian and aid agencies, and telecom service providers identified key priorities needed to promote the delivery of satellite-based disaster recovery and emergency management solutions.
Key opportunities have since been pursued through a global disaster-recovery program coordinated by GVF with the entire spectrum of emergency-management stakeholders, including humanitarian and aid agencies, the United Nations, non-governmental organizations, governments, and others.
