Broadpeak has won a deal to provide its content delivery network (CDN) and video server solutions to StarHub - its first customer win in Asia.

StarHub has deployed Broadpeak's BkM100 Mediator CDN manager and BkS300 multi-format video streaming servers for its live IP video services, which use adaptive streaming formats including Apple's HTTP Live Streaming (HLS).

Lin Shu Fen, head of home solutions at StarHub, said: "Broadpeak solutions enable us to support HLS adaptive bitrate streaming, ensuring for the first time that we can deliver high-quality video in this popular format to our customers."

Broadpeak opened a new office in Singapore last May. It is using CommunicAsia2013, where it is planning the Asian launch of two new solutions, as a springboard to build demand for its products among Asian telcos and content providers, said Nivedita Nouvel, the company's VP of marketing.

The C-CAS technology, targeting telcos in the region, allows legacy set-top-boxes that do not support new formats (HLS, Smooth Streaming, HDS) to make use of adaptive streaming.

The umbrellaCDN is designed for content providers wanting to deliver their content directly through the internet to end-users. It gives them the ability to balance their traffic between several CDNs according to criteria including geographical regions, quality of service and time of the day.

Broadpeak is also demonstrating a variety of CDN solutions, including the BkM100 Mediator and BkS300, at its booth in the French Pavilion.
