StarHub and Kronicles are now offering a cloud-based disaster recovery service targeted at Singapore’s SMBs.

The data protection as a service offering, dubbed ASSURE, is hosted on StarHub’s ISO 27001-certified Argonar cloud infrastructure, which touts carrier grade standards, connectivity and 99.95% uptime.

The ASSURE range of services is an enhancement over an earlier 2012 partnership between StarHub and Kronicles, which offered customers a cloud-based backup and recovery service for Windows only. The ASSURE services portfolio will also be offered on StarHub’s upcoming SaaS marketplace, a self-service portal where customers can sign for services.

Similar to its 2012 offering, ASSURE deployments work by having all critical equipment backed up to an on-premise device, known as a POD (Periphery Onsite Device). Data from the POD is subsequently backed up over the internet to the StarHub-hosted Kronicles command center.

Expanded portfolio

The expanded range of cloud-based data protection services include:

  • Assure EndPoint Lite: Data protection across multiple endpoint devices for SMEs with a mobile workforce
  • Assure EndPoint Corporate: Data Protection scaled for a larger number of users, allowing mid to large size enterprises to manage more employees, while having the option of data protection on-premise, over the internet or both
  • Assure Server Lite: Basic server solution for backing up a small number of servers at one go
  • Assure Server Corporate: Enhanced server data protection for organizations with more demanding recovery times
  • Assure Target: A pay-as-you-user service for backup capacity on demand

Prices for the above services start significantly lower than the S$5,000 starting price announced for the cloud-based backup and restore service launched in 2012. They begin at S$1,299 per month for Assure Server Lite while special launch bundle, comprising 1TB of data backup and a 4 Mbps broadband bundle from StarHub, is available for S$2,499 per month.
