Sri Lanka's Information and Communications Technology Agency (ICTA) recently launched the Lanka Government Cloud (LGC), a new cloud facility open to government organizations.
ICTA said in its website the facility will initially offer seven types of servers to government agencies, with memory ranging from 2-32 GB and storage capacity of 200-1600 GB.
"A server can be created and made available for any government organization in two hours after request is made. Once the self-provisioning facility is provided, any government organization should be able to create and use servers provided that those organizations can make payments online," ICTA explained.
Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga was quoted as saying that among the expected benefits of facility is savings for government institutions.
ICTA CEO Reshan Dewapura said that aside from LGC, two other ICT projects of the government were now in place -- the Lanka Government Network, and the Lanka Gate, which when combined will make the government fully equipped to offer e-services to the public.
The LGC is administered and maintained by Lanka Information Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. (LGII), a subsidiary of ICTA, which is also mandated manage and maintain the information infrastructure of the whole government of Sri Lanka.
