Network and satellite services provider SpeedCast is continuing its Asia-Pacific expansion with the acquisition of satellite operator Pactel International.

Australia-based Pactel provides satellite internet, networking and voice services in the Pacific region, to customers including telecom operators, the natural resources sector and governments. It was founded in 1999.

Hong Kong headquartered SpeedCast said the deal would allow it to add 50 skilled Asia-Pacific engineers to its payroll, helping it further expand in the region. It will also give SpeedCast access to Australian points of presence covering the entire continent.

The deal requires regulatory approvals. Terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed

The purchase builds on SpeedCast's recent acquisitions of Australian Satellite Communications and Netherlands-based maritime satellite services provider Elektrikom Satellite Services.

“With the Pactel acquisition, SpeedCast will further consolidate its Asia-Pacific leadership and its commitment to the Australian market and the Pacific islands,” SpeedCast CEO Pierre-Jean Beylier said.
