Handset maker Sony Ericsson plans to enter the highly competitive South Korean mobile phone market in 2007, a Korean wireless service operator, quoted by a Dow Jones report, said.

The Dow Jones report quoted an official of SK Telecom as saying that 'Sony Ericsson is in talks with Korean mobile carriers about installing the Wi-Fi wireless Internet platform on its phones to be launched in Korea.'

The Dow Jones report further said Sony Ericsson may launch high-end phones in Korea in the second half of 2007, when HSDPA is commercialized, according to the official.

Officials at Sony Ericsson couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

South Korean manufacturers such as Samsung and LG dominate the domestic handset market, the Dow Jones report said.

Motorola, the world's second-largest handset maker, is the sole foreign vendor in Korea, with a market share of about 10%, the report added.
