A software glitch caused SingTel customers to experience service disruptions across various parts in Singapore over the past two days.

The issue first surfaced around noon on Tuesday, with users across the island reporting difficulties with making and maintaining calls alongside choppy data speeds. Users also took to social networking site Twitter to voice their frustration with the service disruption.

SingTel at 5pm yesterday said in a post on its Facebook page that the operator was experiencing intermittent service interruptions on its 3G network in certain areas and was working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. The post also apologized to affected users and recommended users switch to its 2G network.

A SingTel spokesperson told TelecomAsia around 9pm yesterday that the service disruption had been traced to a software glitch, with SingTel engineers beginning progressive restoration works around 8pm.

SingTel did not provide further information on the nature of the glitch.

SingTel is not the only operator in Singapore to have been hit with a network disruption this year. Competitor M1 had been struck with a similar outage in May due to a faulty network card in the carrier’s backend system.
