(Korea Times via NewsEdge) South Koreans are continuing to shun mobile phones with PC-like functionality, unlike the US and Europe where they are becoming increasingly popular.

A report from research firm Danawa further said there are only 10 smartphone models in South Korea , compared to the hundreds of phone models being introduced in the country on a regular basis.

The research also said some customers are turning away from smartphones because they are bulky, expensive and also have limited Internet connectivity.

SK Telecom however sells 7 smartphone models, while rival KTF has 3.

LG Telecom, the smallest among the three carriers, has none.

An LG official, who requested anonymity, said LG Telecom is not carrying smartphones simply because 'they don't sell.'

Korean makers such as Samsung and LG Electronics have also produced their own hybrid phones such as Blackjack from Samsung and Env of LG.
