The Philippines' Smart Communications has teamed up with Hybrid PayTech Asia to launch a mobile payment ecosystem platform for enterprise and retail businesses in the country.
Under the recently signed agreement Smart's financial services subsidiary, Smart eMoney (SMI), will use the HybridVIRTUO Ecosystem Platform for a mobile point of sale (mPOS) rollout.
The scalable platform includes Hybrid's HybridMPOS APPs, a mobile application compatible with popular mobile operating systems including such as Android, iOS, BlackBerry and Windows Phone.
The system is also compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS), the global security standard that helps to prevent card and data fraud.
“This engagement with SMI is the first in the Philippines to showcase complete live mPOS transactions,” said Gary Repchuk, director at Hybrid PayTech Asia.
At a recent Smart fundraising event at the Mall of Asia Arena for Filipinos affected by Super Typhoon Haiyan, SMI used the new mPOS devices to accept donations from credit cards.
