Global mobile data technology company Skyroam has launched its new virtual SIM application in Indonesia after securing approval from the Indonesian government.

Skyroam's SIMO vSIM mobile app is designed to give users instant access to mobile data without the need for physical SIM cards.

Understanding the need to adapt quickly to keep pace with growth, Rudiantara, Minister of Communication and Information for the Republic of Indonesia, examined and recognized the benefits that SIMO and vSIM technology can bring to the local wireless industry, businesses and citizens.

In 2017, Indonesia had 133 million internet users - an increase of 45 million since 2016 - with 91% accessing the internet mobile devices. The nation's residents also rank third in the world for time spent on social media. As such, fast, reliable and affordable mobile internet is an increasing demand of the Indonesian people.

After an in-depth review, Rudiantara assessed that SIMO, powered by vSIM and the Skyroam network, could potentially accelerate government programs, especially those supporting accessibility and penetration of mobile internet.

"The Ministry of Communication and Information concluded that SIMO’s technology and business model comply with existing regulations and legislation. We are pleased to have SIMO launch first in Indonesia,” Rudiantara commented.

For its Indonesia launch, Skyroam partnered with Wiko to pre-install the SIMO app onto new Tommy 3 smartphones, so customers can access affordable mobile data without SIMs or carrier plans. SIMO is expected to be installed on 200 million devices by 2020.

The Skyroam SIMO app can also help mobile operators and MVNOs expand their footprint by significantly reducing cost and time of customer acquisition.

"We are thrilled by the enthusiastic support of the Indonesian people and government," said Jing Liu, Skyroam CEO. “We will partner closely to build new industry standards with the government and local operators.”
