Korea's SK Telecom and Japan's NTT DoCoMo on Monday both unveiled innovative mobile-based services.

SK Telecom showed off a new mobile learning platform, T Smart Learning. The platform consists of a smart device and online tools to help students manage and prioritize classwork.

Educational content can be downloaded and shared through the device, and the platform will also serve as a means to allow parents to track their childrens' academic performance over the internet.

T Smart learning will launch in South Korea in July, offering English and mathematics courses through partnerships with after-school learning institutes.

The operator said it also aimed to launch the platform internationally, and is pursuing more partnerships with education providers in Singapore, Thailand, India, Turkey and other countries which learn English as a second language.

NTT DoCoMo meanwhile revealed plans to launch what it says will be Japan's first mobile-to-mobile overseas remittance service on July 7.

The service, docomo Money Transfer, will initially support phone-to-phone transfers to subscribers of the Philippines' Smart. DoCoMo is engaged in a partnership with Smart's parent, PLDT.

The service will also allow the transfer of funds to the accounts of certain banks in South Korea, China, Brazil and the Philippines. DoCoMo said that over 80% of foreign residents in Japan hail from these four countries.

Users will be charged 1,000 yen ($12.36) per remittance.

Initially only DoCoMo's range of i-mode phones will be compatible with the service, but the operator plans to allow smartphone users to use the service in the future. DoCoMo also flagged plans to add more countries to the coverage list.

DoCoMo has been offering domestic mobile wallet services to its customers since 2004.
