SK Telecom has opened a new 5G and advanced ICT experience center at its head office building in Seoul.

The operator's T.um experience center is divided into two exhibition halls, with the first showcasing the technologies expected to be widely adopted in the 5G era.

These include virtual reality shopping, self-driving vehicles with 5G V2X capability, quantum cryptography communication and devices built with AI to control smart home electronic appliances via voice commands.

In addition, the hall includes a 5G base station to allow visitors to experience 8K 360-degree virtual reality video transmitted in real-time from a moving vehicle connected to the 5G network deployed around the head office building.

The second hall involves a visit to a virtual futuristic city containing SK Telecom's predictions for the use of ICT to solve serious environmental pollution and social problems. Zones include a concept space operation center, hologram conference room and teleport room.

“Built with the most-advanced technologies, T.um invites visitors to experience in advance the innovative changes soon to be brought to their lives by 5G, as well as many futuristic technologies that hold the power to address problems that the humanity could face in the future,” SK Telecom VP and head of new media Lee Joon-ho said.
