SK Broadband has tasked Dimension Data Korea to help optimize its core network infrastructure to increase performance, efficiency and scalability as the company expands to cope with the rapid growth from converged media services.
SK Broadband, a subsidiary of SK Telecom, saw a dramatic increase in subscriber multimedia data communication traffic in recent years.
SK Broadband uses a Cisco Carrier Routing System (CRS-1) to route all of its IP-based communication and data traffic. The existing solution was peaking as SK Broadband expanded its customer base. With plans to roll out a number of new offerings, the service provider recognized the need to overhaul its existing infrastructure. It enlisted help from Dimension Data Korea to undertake an extensive analysis of customer traffic, its impact on the existing infrastructure, and recommend a course of action that would enable it to meet current and future needs.
To meet SK Broadband’s business objectives, while ensuring maximum returns from the existing infrastructure, Dimension Data proposed upgrading the existing Cisco CRS-1 to take advantage of new high-speed networking technology. The new solution which leverages the newly launched Cisco CRS-3 would include adding 100G modules into the existing network switch and performance optimisation tuning, to deliver peak performance to its clients.
